BACKGROUND

The incumbent will be assigned to the Laboratory Section within the Medical Squadron and is responsible for supporting the efficient operation and administration of the Laboratory by assisting the Senior Laboratory Assistant.

 

THE ROLE

  • Conducting a wide range of examinations and tests related to the medical laboratory operations;
  • Receiving samples from patients including blood drawing, smears, urine etc.;
  • Preparing, processing and dispatching sample materials not to be examined on base to external laboratories;
  • Following proper laboratory hygiene and disinfections standards;
  • Performing minor maintenance of laboratory instruments and workstations;
  • Assisting in conducting the annual medical examination program, to include taking blood of patients as routine responsibility.

 

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE

  • Very good knowledge of medical laboratory operations;
  • Current professional experience as Medical Laboratory Technician;
  • Basic training in biology or related life sciences, biochemistry or related discipline for specific task related skills,
  • Secondary education; 
  • The work, both oral and written, in this post and in this Headquarters as a whole is conducted mainly in English and therefore sufficient proficiency is essential;
  • Knowledge of host nation language (German) is required.
  • Adequate knowledge of Automatic Data Processing (ADP) Systems is essential.
  • Ability to act self-confidently and have experience in taking blood of patients is considered as an advantage.

 

CONTRACT

Serving civilian members of NATO will be offered a contract in accordance with the NATO Civilian Personnel Regulations. Newly recruited staff will be initially offered a definite duration contract of three years. The definite duration contract may be extended for up to one year. Thereafter, an indefinite duration contract may be offered.
