Who we are:

For 75 years, NATO’s mission has been to preserve peace and security in the Alliance for nearly one billion citizens. The NATO Communications and Information Agency (NCI Agency) and its predecessors have worked tirelessly in providing the means that enable the connectedness and togetherness that keep our Alliance strong. We are the NCI Agency, a team of 3000 civilian and military staff in 29 locations throughout Europe, North America and Asia.

Our technology and cyber experts allow NATO to conduct critical operations, protect NATO’s airspace, make data-driven decisions, defend against cyber-attacks, secure NATO networks and maintain superiority in space. This is all possible because of our greatest force, our people. In order to keep this edge we aim to hire, train and retain the very best staff.

Our staff members represent both the diversity and unity of our Alliance. When you join the NCI Agency, you will be part of an organization where you can contribute authentically to the mission and purpose of NATO and help us keep our technological edge.

About the job:

Based in Braine l'Alleud, Belgium but in support of the Federated Mission Network (FMN) Secretariat embedded in SHAPE (Mons Belgium), you will join the Agency as we embark on a journey to transform our IT services to support NATO’s Digital Endeavour. A key part of this will be that you will help Allies, Partner Nations and the NATO Command Structure (NCS) to collectively develop capabilities in support of Mission Networks for NATO–led missions and operations.

You will join the Chief Technology Office (CTO), which is the key enabler of NATO’s digital transformation. This office is a cornerstone for the NCIA’s work to advance NATO’s information and communication technologies (ICT) that are critical to maintain NATO’s technological edge and the required interoperability between the NCS, the NATO Force Structure (NFS) and the forces of Allies and Partner Nations. With NCIA’s scientists, architects and engineers, CTO is the hub for architecting and designing NATO’s ICT technical landscape while considering innovation, standardization, and coherence across the Alliance.

We are looking for a driven and enthusiastic Principal Enterprise Architect who will take on the following roles and responsibilities:

•    Act as principal advisor to the Federated Mission Network (FMN) Management Structure on federation architecture products, C3 Interoperability related issues and traceability of requirements.
•    Assess impact of the FMN Vision and Spiral Specification Roadmap on the architecture domains, including business, information, application and technology, and derive operational benefits of (planned) interoperability solutions.
•    Chair the Architecture Coordination Board (ACB) for the FMN Framework with a view to encourage National and NATO staff to adhere to common agreed architecting methods across the working groups of the FMN Framework.
•    Oversee production of federation architectures by National and NATO staff across all FMN Working Groups and (Inter-) Working Group Syndicates to ensure traceability from requirements through to the products of the FMN Framework, while also ensuring coherence with NATO agreed Architecture Policies, Directives, Standards and Architecture Reference Data
•    Advise, mentor and collaborate Interoperability and FMN related matters with architects and engineers across National FMN Affiliates, the NCIA, and Allies.
