With its 14 E-3A aircraft, our organization plays a critical role in NATO and our mission is to deliver ready, responsive Airborne Early Warning, Battle Management, and Command and Control capability to operational commanders in support of NAC-approved tasks.

    The Air Traffic Control & Airfield Services Squadron directs and controls performance of subordinate Branches/Sections. It provides Air Traffic Control Service, Meteorological Service, Fire-/Crash- and Rescue-Service, Ground Radar and Radio Maintenance Service. The Fire/Crash/Rescue Branch provides a 24/7 fire-fighting capability for all aircraft, operational, technical and domestic areas.

    The incumbent performs a variety of specialized functions in the field of Fire Prevention and Inspections including related training, planning and advice in regard to adequate planning of construction work (interim and permanent buildings).

    THE ROLE

    • Conducting Fire Prevention Inspections;
    • Supervision of a comprehensive fire prevention and life safety program;
    • Section Chief of designated Fire prevention area;
    • Supervising a fire prevention team;
    • Researching, recommending and improving fire safety and fire prevention policies, regulations and ordinances;
    • Supporting in managing the Base Fire Prevention Program and participating in - and conducting Fire Prevention Inspections on the Main Operating Base (MOB) and Forward Operating Base/Location (FOB/L);
    • Performing technical plan checks comprising residential, commercial and industrial projects as assigned;
    • Counseling developers, architects, engineers, contractors and officials in regard to fire safety and prevention needs and liaising with other agencies on information planning and participating in project reviews;
    • Supervising the inspection of buildings to identify hazardous conditions and materials;
    • Authorizing use, storage and transportation of explosive and flammable liquids;
    • Attending Ground Safety Walk-Through Inspections to ensure compliance with applicable fire safety rules and regulations;
    • Attending Ground Safety Council meetings;
    • Supervising and/or participating in investigations to determine cause and origin of fire;
    • Staying abreast of technological developments in the assigned area of expertise and maintaining professional proficiency;
    • Establishing Fire Orders and Fire Prevention Procedures, incl. base information;
    • Planning emergency escape routes for buildings;
    • Processing and maintaining sewer system / pipeline plans and files;
    • Developing, coordinating and conducting evacuation training and exercises;
    • Advising Building Custodians and Fire Wardens on Fire Safety measures;
    • Performing Fire Warden training;
    • Assisting the Deputy Fire Chief in the general branch administration. 

     

    QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE

     

    • Secondary education and basic training for specific task related skills, with 2 years’ experience;
    • Secondary education and completed basic vocational training in a related field;
    • Good working knowledge of firefighting matters, especially fire prevention issues acquired through at least 3 years` current related professional experience;
    • A minimum of 3 years’ experience as a fire fighter;
    • Experience in developing and conducting fire prevention related training;
    • Completed professional training as Fire Prevention Inspector equivalent to host nation standards;
    • Driving license B;
    • Fire Prevention Introduction Course at Municipal Fire Department;
    • Fire Officer ll (Brandinspektor) equivalent to Host Nation LG2E1 according to VAP 2-1-Feu and AGBF
    • Aviation fire fighter;
    • NBC Operations – Phase ll;
    • Aircraft Firefighting – Phase I;
    • Fire Officer l (“Oberbrandmeister”) equivalent to Host Nation LG1E2 according to VAP 1-2-Feu and AGBF, with 3 years’ experience;
    • Basic training course (“Brandmeister”) equivalent to Host Nation LG1E1 according to VAP 1-1-Feu and AGBF, which must include as a minimum:
    • Basic firefighting;
    • Rescue Operations - Phase I;
    • NBC Operations - Phase I;- Operator for Pumps and Vehicles;
    • Operator for Turntable ladders;
    • Operator for Swop load vehicles;
    • Voice radio operator course;
    • Wearer of Self-contained Breathing Apparatus;
    • Equipment maintainer course;
    • Chain saw operator course;
    • Paramedic (Equivalent DEU: “Rettungssanitäter” or higher);
    • Physical Fitness Training (Equivalent DEU “Rettungsschwimmerabzeichen” und “Deutsches Sportabzeichen in Silber”);
    • Formal education or vocational training as Fire Prevention Inspector;
    • Formal education or vocational training in LG1E2;
    • The HQ's host nation language is required;
    • The work, both oral and written, in this post and in this Headquarters as a whole is conducted mainly in English, therefore adequate level of English knowledge is essential;
    • Adequate knowledge of Standard Automatic Data Processing Systems is required.

     

    THE FOLLOWING WOULD BE CONSIDERED AS AN ADVANTAGE

     

    • Member of a voluntary firefighter organization;
    • Previous NATO assignment;
    • Experience working in an international/military environment;
    • Experience in office administration
    • Completed advanced vocational, post related training.

    CONTRACT

     

    Serving civilian members of NATO will be offered a contract in accordance with the NATO Civilian Personnel Regulations. Newly recruited staff will be initially offered a definite duration contract of three years. Thereafter, an indefinite duration contract might be offered.

     

     

    SALARY

     

    Salary value indicated in this vacancy notice is based on the new Single Salary Spine scale.
