This advertisement is for multiple job openings for Paramedics within the Medical Squadron of the NAEW&C Force.

With its 14 E-3A aircraft, our organization plays a critical role in NATO and our mission is to deliver ready, responsive Airborne Early Warning, Battle Management, and Command and Control capability to operational commanders in support of NAC-approved tasks.

 

The Medical Squadron provides flight medical and dental care, occupational and preventive health services as well as crash crew and emergency medical services for all on-base military and civilian personnel.

 

Depending on the post, the main focus of the job, aside of the participation in medical emergency and crash crew services, will be:

 

  • Performing required management of all Section related administrative matters and supporting the Occupational Health Officer and the Staff Assistant Occupational Health in all Occupational Health related topics;
  • Providing Support in the Treatment Room;
  • Performing preliminary examinations such as ECG, vision and audiometry test, lung function testing and vaccinations;
  • Responsible for the proposal, solicitation and accounting transfer for all medical material and office supplies; responsible for fund management;
  • Responsible for supporting the management of the Training Section and providing different types of medical training;.
  • Coordination of the activities required to meet quality standards.

THE ROLE

 

In all positions as a Paramedic, the incumbent will be responsible for:

 

  • Participating in Crash Crew / emergency medical services;
  • Providing medical support for deployments;
  • Leading in the medical emergency and acute care of patients in an emergency;
  • Independently carrying out medically prescribed measures for patients in emergency use and independent implementation of specified medical measures;
  • Determination and recording of the situation at the place of action and immediate initiation of necessary general measures to avert danger;
  • Assessing the state of health of sick and injured people and implementing the necessary measures independently;
  • Carrying out medical measures for patients in an emergency, including invasive measures, in order to prevent the patient's situation from deteriorating until the emergency doctor arrives or the start of further medical care if a there is a life-threatening condition or significant consequential damage is to be expected;
  • Dealing appropriately with people in emergency and crisis situations;
  • Establishing and securing the ability of patients to be transported in an emergency;
  • Selecting the appropriate transport destination and monitoring the medical condition of patients and its development during transport;
  • Appropriate transfer of patients for further medical treatment including description and documentation of their medical condition and its development;
  • Communicating with persons, institutions or authorities involved or to be involved in the operation;
  • Carrying out quality assurance and organizational measures in the rescue service as well as documenting the -emergency medical and tactical measures used;
  • Ensuring that the rescue equipment is operational, including observing and complying with hygiene regulations and legal work and accident prevention regulations.

 

 

As Occupational Health Assistant, additionally:

 

  • Performing medical support duties relating to occupational health (such as scheduling patients` appointments with civilian doctors, screening medical reports and test results, receiving incoming calls, visitors and patients, maintaining appropriate records and occupational health files and databases for statistical purposes);
  • Performing a variety of routine medical examinations/tests in support of the occupational health programs;
  • Independently coordinating and scheduling appointments for annual examinations of NATO and LWR civilian personnel;
  • Coordinating and scheduling occupational health related studies ( e.g. Work Ability Index) under Supervision of the Occupational Health Officer.

 

 

As Ambulance Crew Chief & Emergency Paramedic, additionally (depending on the post):

 

  • Assisting in and administration of the treatment of wounds, bandaging and preparing for injections/infusions and vaccinations;
  • Conducting medical diagnostics such as Stress ECG, pulmonary functions tests, body measurement, vision and audiometry test;
  • Acting as Purchase Card holder for office supplies and being responsible for managing the Medical Squadron Budget;
  • Assisting in maintaining medical equipment, furniture, consumable supplies and the dispensary.

 

 

As Training Specialist / Ambulance Crew Chief, additionally:

 

  • Providing training in first aid, basic hygiene and NATO deployment related medical skills;
  • Providing special medical training for Load Masters and Cabin Supervisors and First Aid Helpers;
  • Providing refresher training for Medical Emergency Personnel.

 

 

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED

 

  • Vocational training as Emergency Paramedic (Notfallsanitäter) of 3 years;
  • Minimum proficiency of 2 years as Emergency Paramedic;
  • Current annual training course (30 hours) for Emergency Paramedic (Notfallsanitäter)
  • Military driver’s license (or equivalent) including license for ambulance vehicles;
  • Secondary education and basic training for specific task related skills, with 1 year experience;
  • Knowledge of Host Nation language (German) is required for some positions;
  • The work both oral and written in this post and in this Headquarters as a whole is conducted mainly in English therefore sufficient English proficiency is essential;
  • Adequate knowledge of Standard Automatic Data Processing (ADP) is required.

 

 

Additionally to the previous requirements, as Occupational Health Assistant:

 

  • Training Courses for Occupational Health Assistants is required.

Additionally to the previous requirements, as Training Specialist:

 

  • Experience in delivering learning activities to a variety of audiences;
  • Paramedic Educational Trainer (Praxisanleiter).

 

 

THE FOLLOWING WOULD BE CONSIDERED AS AN ADVANTAGE

 

All positions

 

  • Previous NATO assignment;
  • Experience working in an international / military environment;
  • Experience in office management;
  • Trained as `OrgL` (Organisatorischer Leiter Rettungsdienst = Organizational Leader of Rescue Services).

 

 

As Ambulance Crew Chief & Emergency Paramedic, additionally:

 

 

  • Vocational Training as Medical Technical Assistant or previous occupation and/or training in functional diagnostics;
  • Previous occupation and/or training in fund management, logistics or adjacent fields of work;

 

 

As Training Specialist, additionally:

 

 

  • PHTLS (Pre Hospital Trauma Life Support) Instructor
  • First Aid Trainer
  • Casualty Camouflage Training
  • Hygiene Training courses.

CONTRACT

 

Serving civilian members of NATO will be offered a contract in accordance with the NATO Civilian Personnel Regulations.

Newly recruited staff will be initially offered a definite duration contract of three years. Thereafter, an indefinite duration contract might be offered.

 

 

SALARY

 

Salary values indicated in this vacancy notice are based on the new Single Salary Spine scale.
