Our organisation
Joint Force Command Brunssum (JFCBS) provides a Joint headquarters to plan, prepare and conduct operations to support NATO’s core tasks, at the Joint Operational level, as directed by Supreme Allied Commander Europe (SACEUR).
The Operations Directorate is responsible for directing, monitoring, coordinating and assessing operational functions and advising the Chief of Staff (COS) regarding all regionally focused operational activities.
The Joint Assessment Division is responsible for the gathering of evidence to provide formal feedback on the progress and results of an operation, inform decision-making and make adjustments to the plan.
The Operational Assessment Branch focuses on assessing the mid-term planning-horizon in order to support operations synchronization.
Within the office, the incumbent provides tailored operations research and analysis to assist in the HQ decision making process using data drawn independently and from a variety of sources.
The main duties of Staff Officer (Operational Analysis) are:
· Work with Division Head to determine how OA can support best the work of the Division.
· Utilizing this guidance, provide the Joint Analysis and Assessment Division with scientific advice and an objective, scientifically based problem solving capability.
· Conduct analytical studies to support decision-making in areas such as joint warfare, stability operations, political military affairs and so on.
· Assist in analytical support to the Operations Assessment process.
· Support the wider Operational Planning Process through the provision of OA support.
· Lead in training OA personnel.
· Undertake work as part of a project team or working group as directed or assigned
The incumbent may be required to undertake deployments in support of military operations and exercises, and/or TDY assignments, both within and without NATO boundaries. Such operational deployment may exceed 30 days duration up to 183 days in any period of 547 days, and may be on short notice. For NATO International Civilian Staff, acceptance of an employment contract linked to this post constitutes agreement to deploy in excess of 30 days if required.
Required Qualifications are:
Ø English – good – NATO Standard Language Proficiency 3333
(Listening, Speaking, Reading and Writing) in accordance with NATO standard agreement (STANAG) 6001.
NOTE: The work both oral and written in this post and in this Headquarters as a whole is conducted mainly in English.
Ø University Degree or equivalent in related field.
Ø Minimum 4 years’ professional experience including:
- mathematical modelling
- simulation
- war gaming
- applying standard Operational Research techniques.
Ø Experience using computer software programmes designed to apply analytical techniques.
Ø Experience producing reports and briefings at senior level.
Desirable Qualifications are:
Ø Knowledge of joint and/or combined operations at both operational and tactical levels.
Ø Experience applying:
· Probability theory
· Queueing theory
· Statistical analysis
· Linear programming
· Decision tree analysis
· Risk analysis
· System dynamics
· Project planning and analysis
· Survey techniques

Ø Completion of for this position relevant courses / training.
The successful candidate possesses following personal attributes:

ü Flexible and able to work under pressure;
The successful selected candidate needs to have a NATO security clearance and is required to pass a medical examination before an employment contract offer will be released. The medical examination will take place with our medical consultant, is required to determine if the recommended candidate is fit to perform the duties, and is deployable to NATO's areas of operation.
