About the job:
Based in Brussels, you will join the Agency as we embark on a journey to transform our IT services to support NATO’s Digital Endeavour. You will join The Office of the Legal Adviser which plays a key role in enabling smooth operations of the NCIA in support of NATO 2030 and digital transformation. This Office advises numerous stakeholders on a wide range of legal matters and is responsible for identifying legal risks and advising on mitigation strategies across the entire organization.
We are looking for a driven and enthusiastic Paralegal who will take on the following roles and responsibilities:

Conduct comprehensive legal research and draft memos on various legal topics related to employment law, technology, contract interpretation, internal and external regulations, and the law of international organizations.

Assist in deciphering and interpreting regulations and legal frameworks relevant to the NCIA’s operations.

Assist in analysing, documenting, and presenting facts to support an organizational position related to a piece of legislation, NATO Directive or NCIA Directive.

Integrate research findings into clear and actionable legal opinions for leadership, ensuring compliance with applicable laws and regulations.

Collaborate closely with attorneys to develop strategies for addressing legal issues and enhancing operational effectiveness.

Support the legal team in drafting and reviewing legal documents, correspondence and briefs.

Provide assistance in understanding privileges and immunities associated with international organizations.

Maintain organized records of legal research and documentation to ensure easy access and reference; coordinate this task with other support staff as required.

Contribute to the development of policies and procedures that align with legal requirements and best practices.

Details and operates specific requirements on content management, archiving and audit trails.

Contribute to defining document management processes, procedures and standards.

Train others on using advanced management features and products.

Build strong relationships across the Agency, NATO and NATO nations to enhance effectiveness and pertinence of legal advice, and contribute to strategic direction of the Legal Office.

About you:
The valuable knowledge and experience that you bring to this role are:
-
A minimum requirement of higher vocational training in a relevant discipline with 4 years post-related experience. Or a secondary educational qualification with 6 years post-related experience.

Experience supporting lawyers in a legal office or related office, located in government, a company, law firm, or international organization.
-
Experience supporting research and processes related to litigation.
-
Experience supporting staff working on Board of Directors’ matters.
-
Strong familiarity with legal processes in businesses (whether for profit, or not-for-profit).
-
Demonstrated high level of proactivity and initiative in supporting resolution of complex issues.
-
Research experience, skills, and the ability to analyse and synthesize complex legal information.
-
Demonstrated ability to draft legal documents, memoranda, and research pieces.
-
Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to present information clearly and concisely.
-
Proficiency in legal research tools and database, and familiarity with new tools in the legal domain.
-
Experience in roles requiring strong organizational skills and attention to detail.

Extensive experience with MS Office applications, SharePoint and other file management and legal research platforms.

Fluency in English, both written and spoken.
